My Child's Father Stole My Son. I'm Fighting For Custody. If I Lose My Home, I Lose My Child.
My Story:
I am single mother of an amazing little boy who is 7 years old. He is my pride and joy and the reason I keep living and pushing myself to be successful, no matter how hard things get. As for myself, I'm an LPN at a school. I take care of some amazing children that are developmentally disabled. Between being a mother and a nurse I feel very lucky to be able to spend my life taking care of truly amazing children.
I here because, for the past six months, I have been in court fighting to retain custody of my son. Back in 2018, I was working full time at a hospital on 3rd shift. This meant I had to pay a HUGE amount for a caregiver to come in and spend the nights with my son. When my son's father offered to be the custodial parent until I found a job that would let me be home at night, I thought it sounded like a great idea. We'd always gotten along fine, and I had no reason to think that he had any ulterior motives.
What I didn't know was that my son's dad was just about to get married, and just after the marriage, he notified me that he was moving and planned to take my son with him because he was the custodial parent. Since then he has taken our son from me and only lets me have him 6 days out of 30.
I've been fighting to get primary custody of my son back for nearly a year now. Not only is this battle hurting me and my son, it's destroying me financially. The job I now have pays much better and would let me stay with my son at night, so if I can just keep this fight going, I'm sure I'm going to win, but this month, I had to make a huge payment to my attorney to keep her from withdrawing from the case. Now, I'm behind on my rent and just got a 10 day notice to pay my rent or be evicted. If I'm evicted, I will DEFINITELY lose custody of my son, so this is the worst possible time for anything like this to happen.
I'm hoping that, under the circumstances, Modest Needs would consider helping me to pay my past due rent. If you could please help me catch up on my rent, you wouldn't just be helping me keep my home. You'd be helping me to get back custody of my son. This whole ordeal has taken a huge toll on both me and my son, and he especially doesn't deserve to have to go through this any more. Thank you for any help you can offer during this difficult time.
