I really don't know what to say as thank you just does not tell how I really feel. After spending so many years helping others it is refreshing to know that there are others that also find it in their heart to help others. My heart felt thanks and appreciation is genuine. Thank you, Thank you! And many, many blessings to you & your families.

Single 55 Year Old Veteran and Nursing Student Needs to Keep Lights On

My Story:

I am a 55 year old single woman who has spent her life helping everyone. I am also a Navy Veteran and I decided 4 months ago that I finally needed to do something for myself. I was a former Naval Hospital Corpsman and have been in the medical field for over 33 years and regardless of my disability due to PTSD from to Military Sexual Trauma I have always held a full time job. I decided that this is finally my time to take care of myself, not children or grandchildren but me so I stepped out on faith and applied to ECPI University and I was accepted into the accelerated (18 months) nursing program.

I live paycheck to paycheck but obtaining my Registered Nurse Degree will put me in a financial situation I have never been before. My life will drastically change. I have secured a position at Walmart in the grocery section as well as I have applied to a few Home Health agencies to use my CNA training to bring in additional income. I do not want to be in a position as I've seen so many of our elderly that I've cared for. I am the person that if I am caring for someone and notice they don't have much food, toiletries or other necessities I purchase them myself, hence why I have nothing to help myself. I need Modest Needs help for my Electric bill, I can simply not afford it for this month with my job transition and I am terrified that my lights will get shut off.

Obtaining these funds will allow me to stay in school, be able to continue residing in my home and keep my lights on. I am desperate and I never dreamed I would be in this situation. Over the years I allowed people to move into my home to avoid them being homeless and now having no one to turn to myself is devastatingly hurtful. I am not looking for pity, I am not looking for a hand out and in the future when I am able to contribute to this cause I promise I will. I just need to get through December. If it seems like I am begging, I am. This would more than be greatly appreciated.
