Father Won the Custody Battle, But Needs Help With Legal Fees
My Story:
I am a single father of two clever and caring sons. My 9 year old is a future robotics engineer, and my 7 year old aims to be a creative professional of some kind. We live with my partner who works part time so that I can continue to have flexibility in my full time career role and we can minimize childcare costs. I am a store manager with Starbucks Coffee Company, and I have worked for Starbucks for over 13 years now.
The mother of my kids decided to move from Oregon to Tennessee this year. We spent the summer in a custody battle, which ended in two judgements, the boys would not be best served in moving away from Oregon and from me, and that I would be awarded full custody in light of her decision making and her current husband's history of abuse and aggression towards my children. We already live paycheck to paycheck and the legal expenses to ensure the boys did not move across the country in a potentially dangerous home were a lot. I incurred about $12,000 in legal fees, most of which I was able to pay through personal loans, selling stock options through my employer, and taking a loan out on my 401K. These loans have caused my income to tighten up, and I cannot afford to pay the remainder. I need Modest Needs assistance with he balance on my legal fees.
Paying the remainder of the legal fees down would free me up to focus in on the loans already acquired and get our finances back on track as we raise the boys in our home. Thank you for all your help, it would mean the world to me and my children some day.
