Domestic Violence Survivor Needs Help to Save Her Home & Stay Away from Abuser

My Story:

I'm a single mom, I have a daughter who's in college and live with my son who is 17 years old. He is a junior in High School and plays football. He is extremely dedicated to school and to playing sports and is doing his best to get an athletic scholarship to college. I am so proud of my kids. They're the pride of my life. Everything I do is for him.

I suffered domestic abuse for 8 years. It was physical and emotional abuse but I was also financially abused. His control robbed me of the ability to use and maintain my financial resources. I have a full time job and worked while I was in the relationship, but I had no control of the money I earned, making it extremely difficult for me to do any type of safety planning or save so that I could take my kids and get away from my abuser. For a long time, I saved up in secret so that I could get away from my abuser. Last fall, after my daughter went to school and I knew I could make it, I took my son and ran. I used the money I'd saved to get a place for me & my son & get a protective order against my abuser, and for the first time in a long time, I felt safe.

I'm still working and still living paycheck to paycheck, only now, I have to take care of my son and help my daughter when I can on one income. Just before school, my daughter came home to visit and I saw her tires. They were so worn out they were dangerous, so I helped her get some new ones. That took all the extra money I had. A few weeks later, I got sick and lost two weeks work. I'd have paid my rent with the money I had saved if I hadn't had to help my daughter, but now, I can't pay the rent, and my landlord has told us that if I don't pay by the end of next week, he's going to throw us out. If that happens, I don't know what I'll do, but one things for sure: no matter what, my son has to have a roof over his head, even if that means going back to where I was before.

I tried to find help through local government agencies but to my surprise there is no help for someone in my situation. There is no help for working people, that is why I am turning to Modest Needs for assistance with my rent. The rental office has given me a little time to pay but if I don't pay soon I will receive an eviction notice. I don't want to go back to a life I worked so hard to get away from, so I'm asking please for your help to pay one month's rent. Your help will bring my son and I much needed stability. It would allow this fresh start I have with my son to finally be on track, and allow him to focus on his school work. I hope you can please help us.
