Testimonial

This person has left the following thank you note:

Thank you so much for assisting me with my mortgage. I have been struggling to keep my bills current for over six months. I have incurred late fees on many bills, and had to rely on several family members to help me with school clothes for my granddaughter. I have made sacrifices so that she could get new glasses, shoes, and supplies for school. You cannot imagine how shocked and happy I was when I checked my email today and found that my account had been funded! My brakes went out on my car, and I was without transportation for two weeks. I recently had it repaired, but had to miss a car payment in order to pay for the repairs. This kind and thoughtful act has restored my faith in humanity. I really appreciate that you considered my application and decided to fund it. Now I can breathe a little easier. Again, thank you for your help! Sincerely, Janice

Grandmother Caring For Grandchild Needs Help to Keep Home

My Story:

I am a separated mother of five kids and a grandmother of eight. I am a co-teacher of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder at a District of Columbia public elementary school. I have held this 10-month, fulfilling position for ten years. I have legal custody of one of my 15-year-old granddaughters. Her mother (my daughter) had moved back into our home in April 2019. She moved out again on August 1, 2019. My daughter has mental health issues.

Since I am a 10-month employee, every year I save my tax refunds to get me through the 2 months that I am unpaid. I also work summer school during the month of July. This year both my Federal and State tax refunds were intercepted to pay down 2 student loans that I co-signed for. The loans belong to my youngest daughter, who is currently unemployed. Subsequently, I was left without reserves during this Summer. I need Modest Needs' assistance to pay my September 16, 2019 mortgage payment so that there is no lapse in payment.

I don't want to risk falling behind because my granddaughter and I wouldn't have anywhere to go. If assisted, it would also give me the opportunity to bring some of my other bills current. Modest Needs' assistance will allow me to remain current on my mortgage. My granddaughter is in high school. It is my goal to ensure that she gets through her next few years of school without any additional stress. She's suffering from anxiety due to her mother's mental issues. I'd like her to be able to concentrate on performing well in school and look forward to the future, so that she can go on to college and be successful. She is a giver by nature. Your organization's assistance will demonstrate to her that there are still people that genuinely care about the well-being of others.
