I appreciate your assistance so much. My son and I will be able to use the funds and not have to come up with the money and do without other necessities. It will be nice to not have to choose one bill over another. You all have truly made a difference in my family's life. Thank you again! We are truly blessed!

I Make House Visits for CPS. I Had to Fix My Car to Keep My Job & Now, We're About to Lose Our Home

My Story:

I am a single mom to an amazing little boy. He's 5 years old, super energetic and loves going to karate, school, and church. As for myself, I've always loved children, so I have my dream job. I'm work full time as a social worker with Child Protective Services. I'm so lucky. Even though I see some horrible things in my job, it makes me happy to know that I can be there for kids who don't have anyone else to fight for them.

Everybody knows that social workers don't make much money. I'm no exception. I live paycheck to paycheck, and to save money, I live a little further from work than I probably should. I have to drive about 30 miles each way to get to my job, and then my work requires me to make house visits, where I also have to use my car, so really, I have to have to a car to do my job. Well, last month, my car stopped working. Normally, I could handle a little repair or two, but this repair was much bigger than the usual. I had to get new tires, an oil change, and a battery all at the same time. I did my best to save money. I bought used tires and the cheapest decent battery I could get, but even the battery was $200 by itself. This threw my budget way off, and for the first time in years, I haven't been able to pay my rent this month.

Our landlord is VERY strict, and I've been getting late notices since the fifth. It's now the 21st, and I've just gotten a note saying that if we can't pay in full by the end of the month, we're going to be evicted. Honestly, if we get evicted, I won't have anywhere to go. I really know 'the system,' and I've asked around for help. Shelters are full, and other programs that might be able to help me don't have any money. Some friends told me about Modest Needs, and I hope you're the miracle I've been praying for, because I don't have any friends or family who can help me.

If you could please help me catch up on my rent, you'll be helping me and my son, but you'll also be helping all the families I do my best to help every day. If I'm homeless, I can't do my job, and there already aren't enough social workers to go around to all the families who need us. I know there are lots of people who really need help, but if you could please help us just this once, I'll spend the rest of my life paying it back as best I can. Thank you for reading.
