Maternity Leave and Job Change Could Leave Newborn and Single Mom Homeless
My Story:
I am a single mother of a 6 month old son. My son was born with sickle cell anemia, and is a very happy and otherwise healthy baby. It's just the two of us living in this apartment and I just started a new job which I love. I work full time to support us.
On July 23, 2018 I had my son and was on maternity leave. Throughout my pregnancy I was putting up money for things for my son because his father doesn't want anything to do with him and left me alone to raise him. I was scheduled to go back to work in October but I was having back issues and the job that I had was a physical job. I couldn't do the job at 100%. My leave ran out in November and so did my savings. I need help paying my rent.
I just started a new job on January 7th and won't be getting a full check until February. I'm paying for childcare out of pocket because according to state guidelines, I make too much to qualify for help with child support. I have applied for child support but my court date is not until February. This funding would help us out tremendously. I can get caught up on my rent so my son and I can have a place to live. Your help would get us on the right track. I don't want to get evicted because we have nowhere to go. A friend of mine told me about this program, and I read that it has done great things for families in need. Once I get myself together I would like to return the favor. Thank you.
