User-submitted image - Click to see real sizeI want to extend my deepest gratitude for choosing to help fund my request for financial assistance at Modest Needs. What an incredible way to start the New Year! Last year, and the months leading up to 2018 when I received my diagnosis, was the most difficult, challenging and humbling time of my life. I was faced with many trials as a result of my chronic disease, and forced to make some hard changes to better my health; I changed jobs, moved and underwent multiple testing and lifestyle changes to figure out how to live my life best in spite of my illness. While my symptoms have improved greatly, the financial burden of managing this disease has been extremely difficult for me. This grant will help alleviate so much pressure and help pay for some of the medical bills I can't afford. Thank you so much for supporting me and sacrificing for me - your generosity is an incredible blessing!

Unexpected Medical Diagnosis, Help Single Woman With Large Bill

My Story:

I am a single woman working full-time at a local nonprofit organization called HorseSense for Special Riders that offers equine therapy to individuals with cognitive, mental and physical disabilities such as children, adults and disabled veterans. I am passionate about animal welfare and ethics, and believe wholeheartedly in the benefits of animal-assisted therapy; my rescue dog, Yoda, is my inspiration! Additionally, I find fulfillment in helping others, and have enjoyed volunteering at my church and serving others through missionary work. I live with a roommate who also works full time as a medical receptionist a local hospital.

I was diagnosed with Chronic Ulcerative Colitis, an autoimmune disease, and Acute Anemia Fall 2017. I underwent a variety of testing and procedures in order to determine the disorder, which was not fully covered by my insurance. I am unable to work more hours as my health limits my ability to do so; this illness, and the resulting fatigue, forced me to take a different job this year, quitting the two I previously maintained, which reduced my overall income by almost 20%. Additionally, I was forced to move in with a roommate to help pay for the added expenses that go along with this lifelong disease, i.e. daily prescription medications, supplements and regular doctor visits. I have several claims at the hospital that I am struggling to pay off. I really need Modest Needs' help to pay for my lab and pathology bill from the initial diagnosis of my Colitis.

Your generous assistance with this funding will help me begin to really make a dent in my medical debts and regain some kind of financial stability. This will have a direct impact on my physical health by reducing the stress I am under which exacerbate my symptoms, forcing me to increase the dosages of my medications and supplements that have to be paid for. As a single middle aged woman trying to balance work, family, finances and a chronic illness, your assistance would affect the trajectory of my life as I work to get physically and financially healthy for the first time since college.
