Hardworking Mom of Special Needs Child Needs Rent Help After Unexpected Childcare Loss

My Story:

I am a single mother to the most beautiful (almost 7 year old) boy. My son is obsessed with music, our dog, and anything Elmo related. My son also has a rare genetic disorder, that has caused very severe delays in his development. He is non-verbal and is working to start using a communication device. He has been walking and wheelchair free for a year! He loves being around new friends and always needs lots of hugs. I am server at a restaurant and that has given me the ability to work around my sons differing schedule of doctors and therapies.

My sons father and I have been divorced for almost 4 years now. We have always had a good schedule on custody and he has always paid child support. I never thought there was any concern for safety at his dads house. This past Friday that all changed when my sons grandmother called me at work to come get my son. His grandmother had shown up at his dads house and found he had overdosed on heroin and cocaine in the front lawn and my son had been locked in a room in the basement. I have filed police reports and reports with DCS that are all still under investigation. My son is now with me and safe, which is my main concern. When it comes to finances, I have been put in a big bind. I am a waitress and majority of the money I would make was on the weekends when he was at his dads house. I am currently working lunch shifts when my son is at school and interviewing possible babysitters for the weekend. Since it takes a little longer to find someone that has experience with special needs and who is affordable, I know my ability to pay my bills this next month will be affected. If I could get my rent covered, that would provide us with some stability in this very unstable time.

I know there will be a snowball if I missed one payment. This funding will give me the chance to give my son some normalcy in a tough situation. I would have the chance to make sure I have a very qualified person watching my son, since we have no family close by. I moved closer to a well known childrens hospital 4 years ago, so he would get the best care possible. This funding would also lift a huge financial burden off my shoulders and would give me the chance to get ahead of other bills. This help would make a huge and long lasting impact on our finances as well as my peace of mind. Knowing that I can spend the weekends with my son while he gets use to not seeing his dad and while I am finding the best person to watch him is life changing.
