Full-time Student and Employee Needs Help with Rent After Hurricane Harvey
My Story:
I am a single aunt, aged 37. I love art, animals, and being a nerd. I work full-time as an administrative aide for Houston Public Library as well as go to school for Graphic Design at Houston Community College. I recently took in my nephew who is disabled due to his schizophrenia. My nephew is also artistic and musically inclined. He is awaiting disability approval. He is currently unable to work.
I live paycheck to paycheck, so sometimes any small unexpected expense can set me back a month or so. I am going to school to further myself in the workforce and to get out of that 'paycheck to paycheck' rut. As you all know, Harvey ravaged the Houston and Southeast Texas area recently. I have had unexpected expenses due to preparing for the storm and damage prevention of my apartment unit. On top of that, my brakes suffered and the repair needed is not covered under my insurance or any warranty. This is my only means of transportation to and from work. I do not live near public transit and am running out of options for making commute arrangements since the brakes failed during Harvey. Harvey took away a lot from me. In addition to losing personal belongings and my transportation during Harvey, my beloved companion and service dog passed away. She fell ill during Harvey and due to flooding we could not get her the immediate vet attention she needed. This whole ordeal has been devastating in more ways than one. I just need help over this hump to help with a couple bills that are behind or that I will be unable to pay at the moment. I need Modest Needs help with my rent.
This funding will bring everything current and give me a clean slate, if you will. This will allow me stable footing to get back on my feet and stay on my feet financially as well as mentally and emotionally. Your help and generosity will make a difference and a permanent positive path for my household. It would also give my nephew hope that our situations can better themselves and do not define us as people. It would me amazing to be able to one day, pay it forward and help someone else in need because I am stable enough to provide for my household as well as community.
