This person has left the following thank you note:

User-submitted image - Click to see real sizeI have such deep gratitude to you for helping me. This has been a scary time in my life; first having the stroke, fearing what of my faculties I'd lose because of it and then realizing this is my new reality. I grasp that other people have far worse than I, but this has impacted my life in a profound way. When my oil furnace broke and I had no hot water, I sat in the floor and cried. I felt overwhelmed and lost and had no idea how on earth I was going to pay for repairs and also pay my Verizon bill. Medical co-pays have been a tremendous drain on my finances since the stroke. I haven't been able to work as I did before, so that contributed, too. I notified Verizon my request had been funded here; they say I've always been a good customer and will turn back on my phone & internet ( I'm using my friend's computer right now) as soon as they receive notice from Modest Needs. I cannot truly express my humble gratitude that a stranger would care enough to help, that there really is kindness and compassion in the world despite all the bad things we see on the news every day. Although I have no money to give to people, please know I will find ways to pay forward what you have so generously given, kindnesses to strangers such as you have been kind to me. There isn't enough of that in the world, so doing my part to touch someone else's life in a positive way would be a small kind of re-payment for the tremendous generosity I've been shown by you. YOU have a made a difference in a life, in my life, and I pray God blesses you a thousand times over for it. I pray you never know want or need and that you always feel safe and cared for. With all my heart, I thank you so humbly for what you have so kindly done for me. Respectfully, Susan

Stroke Survior in Rural Area Needs Phone Bill Paid

My Story:

I'm a divorced, disabled senior RN living on a farm in rural RI. I had a small stroke in September and I deal with fatigue and rather difficult memory issues. I have two dogs that are my heart & keep me such loving company. I have a couple chickens I gather eggs from daily, and I grow some of my food and bake my own bread. My little 900 square foot house is my heart; I've worked hard to make it a lovely home, painting, sewing & doing all the repairs I am able to on my own. I take pride in doing as much as I can for my life. I raised six children alone during the 30 year span of my Nursing career. They have families of their own and their own challenges and bills to pay & they work very hard to do that. One of my grown daughters is permanently brain-damaged from an auto accident 16 yrs ago & cannot work and she stays here with me often. I serve on a local town government board that pays me a little each month and I also receive income from selling my art work and baked goods.

I have no cell phone, in my current financial status cannot afford that. I depend entirely on my landline phone & internet to communicate and pay my bills as well as keep in touch with my doctors and out of state family. My phone is also the only method I have to call for help/911. It is nice to have tv to watch but I'll be discontinuing that as soon as I am out of the Verizon contract period, as I cannot afford the early termination fee. I got behind on my Verizon bill in May when my Oil Burner on my home furnace broke. It doesn't just supply heat but also heats my hot water. I had no hot water for 6 days until they came & fixed it. I can't afford their service contract so I had to pay cash for the repairs , which came to $377.87 and pretty much wiped me out. I need Modest Needs help in paying my Verizon bill. The have been calling repeatedly with warnings the service will be shut off if I don't pay by 06/29/2017.

For now, I would be deeply grateful for your consideration and help. It's kinda scary to think of being this far out with no ability to call for help if I needed it. I had to call 911 when I had the stroke. I worry that could happen again; as an RN I know that's a statistical likelihood, an unfortunate reality. I also use the internet to sell my artwork as well as my baked goods, and that small but important income would be completely lost to me without internet service. I'm not able to drive around & go places to sell my work; my physical status prevents it, so I depend heavily on the internet. This has been extremely stressful, worrying about this bill and being disconnected from the rest of the world via telecommunications & fear that I would be stranded and unable to call for help.
