Disabled Father Needing A Handicap Shower to Stay in Family's Home
I am the dad to a 3 beautiful daughters and 2 step kids. My youngest still lives at home as well as my fiancé. She purchased this house at the same time I hurt my back and now I'm unable to work, I lost my farm and business. I can't do the stairs in this big stucco home. My fiancé works 2 full time jobs - one at the courthouse as Emergency Management and then also at Casey's General Store.
She's trying to keep us in this house but without a shower on the main level we will have to move. We have a carpenter who is willing to knock out a wall and make this happen for us on the main floor of the home. We've contemplated moving but it is also expensive and we've made this our home so we wish to keep it as long as we can. I have severe degenerative disc disease, just had a triple by pass and then broke my fibula in my leg. We need help from Modest needs to remodel our small bathroom on the main floor to an addition of a handicap accessible shower that I can use - with a seat for the times I cant stand to shower. We love to have our whole family home on the weekends and to be able to stay in this location close to her work.
I don't want to have to go to an assisted living home and feel this will allow me to stay in my home for many years despite my handicaps. I've truly been set back by my illness these past several years, its not what a dad wants to not be able to do things with his children and grand children. My family and I would be forever grateful for any help.
