Mom Missed Work for Major Surgeries: Please Help to Keep Family's Power Connected
My Story:
I am a married mother of three amazing kids. We are a melting pot family. My oldest son had been attending college, but has come home to help out. I have custody of my niece, as both of her parents are addicts and signed off their parental rights to her. I do not receive any form of child support to assist with her needs. My youngest son is an energetic, fun, loving, and inquisitive child. We love taking the kids to the library, as well as attending organized events in town. My husband and I both work full-time jobs. I have been with the same employer for the last 16 years, and love my job.
As a family of five, we had been managing things pretty well until this past year. About one year ago I was diagnosed with Barrett's Esophagus, and was told I would need to have a 4-part major surgery. The surgeries have hit our family hard financially. Not only have I had to miss several weeks of work to recover from each procedure; we've also incurred numerous out-of-pocket medical expenses for the deductibles, co-pays, and medications. Having exhausted my sick and vacation pay, we have not been able to keep up with all of our household bills.
I am asking for Modest Needs to help us with our past-due electric bill. The financial hardship from missing so much work and pay, and having a number of medical expenses to pay up front has left us unable to catch up with this bill, and I fear we will be without essential utility services if we do not find assistance.
Our family has been through a lot, but we're doing all we can to keep our spirits up and do the best we can. I have made arrangements with some of my medical bills so that I can pay them off over time. This one-time help will lift a huge burden off of our family, and ease my worries as I prepare for my upcoming surgery. We appreciate your considering our family for this funding. It will make a long lasting impact on us and help us to get back on track.
