Caring for My Mother after Losing My Father and Need Help with Mortgage
My Story:
I am a single mother of of two children. My 14-year-old son is very gifted and has been in advanced classes since grade school. He plays the double bass and the piano and is in the ROTC program as well. His dream is to go to Harvard and become an attorney. My daughter, well, she is a real spitfire! She always keeps me on my toes! She loves to be a little actress and wears Halloween costumes to daycare all year round. My mother is a beautiful woman who has had some very tough times. She is unable to work due to disability, and has not yet received Social Security benefits.
I moved here with my kids after fleeing an abusive marriage. In the two years since my move, I have been able to get a great job, and was able to purchase a modest home for my little family. When my father passed away this past spring, my mother's (and my) life was turned upside down. My mother had no income because she is a little too young to be eligible for her Social Security benefits. Without my father there, she could not keep her home or care for herself. I have had her move in with my children and me, and have been providing for all of them.
I am asking for Modest Needs' help with the mortgage. I was not prepared for all of the expenses and challenges that came up during the months since losing my father, and my mom is now dependent on me until her Social Security starts. I am fearful that if I do not get my finances back on track, we could be in danger of losing the home I worked so hard to give my family.
I know there are still good people in this world. Prior to this experience, I was working to do more to assist other domestic violence survivors, but have since had to put things on hold to tend to my own family's needs. I work hard, and just need to be able to give my family a sense of stability. It has been so tough to deal with the loss of my father, and I do not want my family to lose anything else. Your help is greatly appreciated, and I thank you for taking the time to read our story.
