User-submitted image - Click to see real sizeWow. I can't believe it! I just discovered that my application for car repair was funded! I am so incredibly grateful. I hope that my words will be able to express how much I appreciate all of you who donated to my cause. As a teacher in a small town, I give a lot of time to my students and their families. This is my 12th year teaching and still I wake up every morning with joy in my heart. I love my job! But it doesn't pay much in terms of money. It pays lots in terms of community spirit, and the heart-filled connections we make every day with our students. I simply didn't know how I was going to pay for my pending car repairs... as the cold is now reaching Wisconsin, our little diesel engine has been coughing and sputtering its way into life each morning. I am so, SO grateful to you all for contributing to our fund! I didn't know whether to involve my children in this process, but ultimately I decided that it's good for them to see all the gifts our family gives to our community in terms of time, work help, meals cooked, etc. come around again. Gratitude is such a beautiful thing! I know my boys, too, will be so grateful when I share the news with them. Again, thank you all: you mysterious, beautiful, generous folks. You have lightened my heart and renewed my faith in the goodness and kindness of people. I hope one day, I can pay it forward on this site as well.

School Teacher/Mother of 2 Needs Car Repair Help

My Story:

I am a single mother and a full-time high school teacher at an amazing school in our small town. Our school relies on volunteer efforts by students, parents, and teachers, and does not pay great wages. However, the work we do in fields of social and environmental activism and community involvement make it worthwhile. I have been teaching in this region for over 11 years, and am thankful to be raising my boys in such a wonderful community!

My older son is 15 and loves football, surfing, basketball, skateboarding, and hanging out with his friends. This summer, he remarked to me, 'Mom, I have a really good life. Thanks.' That brought tears to my eyes! My younger son is 8, and he is such a sweet and loving kid. I am lucky to get lots of hugs from him! He loves to play outside most of the time, any season of the year, and especially enjoys baseball in summer and hockey in winter. He loves nature and shows kindness to all creatures. I enjoy gardening and growing our own food. I can and freeze it so we always have healthy food to eat, and it really helps save a lot of money. We are happy and healthy, and are lucky to be able to give time and energy to our community!

I do not have a lot of extra money left after paying bills, and recently had to pay for some car repairs to keep my car running. I could not come up with the full amount and had some family members chip in so I could get my car in working order for the time being. I need my car to go to work, take care of my boys, bring them to see their dad, and to drive students to outdoor education sites. I delayed any repairs that were not needed immediately, but now that winter is approaching, I cannot postpone them much longer.

I am asking for Modest Needs' help to fix my car, so my boys and I can continue having safe and reliable transportation. I am currently forced to choose between fixing my car and paying the mortgage, and worry that we could lose our home if I miss a mortgage payment.

If you can assist me in repairing my vehicle, it will keep me working and keep my household financially afloat. On a personal level, my kids will see first hand the positive effect we can all have on each other when we give. They are growing to be gracious and generous people. For them to see this kind of generosity in our time of need would be a beautiful affirmation of our faith in humanity and the bounty of this beautiful world.
