User-submitted image - Click to see real sizeFirst and foremost, I would just like to say thank you. I cried this morning reading the very first email of my day and it was from you, the modest needs donors. It has been a very exhausting week and this just turned my entire day around 180 degrees!!! I cannot express to you the very sincere and selfless actions of you all and your dedication to helping others such as myself! Again, thank you, and if at all possible I would really love to get into contact with some of you personally and thank you. This means so much to me, and I am overwhelmed with joy and relieved. Thank you!!!! Sincerely, Anthony

Recently Began Civilian Job: Medically Retired Navy Corpsman Needs Car Payment

My Story:

I am a recently retired Navy FMF Corpsman. I was medically retired in August 2015, and have since been going to school for EMTB-AEMT (basic and advanced emergency medical technician). I am divorced, and have been single for the past year. I enjoy music, spending time with family, and my pit bull puppy. I just recently started a job as an Emergency Department Technician with a hospital system, but I am still seeking a second job. I am planning to advance my education, going in pre-med with a degree in biology.

The last year has been a tough one for me, and I went through severe financial problems where it seemed like everything hit me all at once. My divorce and problems with my ex-wife, followed by a car accident, and then medically retiring from the military, all caused major, unexpected financial issues for me. It was too much for me. After seeking help, my parents welcomed me into their home and I made sure to focus my energy on school. I cannot explain how difficult and frustrating transitioning out of the military has been. Eight months later, I am finally getting the momentum and noticing the progress I have made in my life. While I have secured employment and am doing well in school, the hardships I encountered during my transition from military to civilian life have had a devastating effect on my financial responsibilities.

The one expense I am truly concerned with right now is my car payment. I have fallen far behind due to the 8 months of unemployment, and not being able to afford all of my bills on my retirement income alone. I am now two months behind, and very close to having my car repossessed. It is so difficult for me to ask for help, but I need to swallow my price and ask for your assistance to catch up with my car payments. After 8 really hard months, I have finally achieved a job, and things are now starting to go in the right direction. If I do not have my car, I will lose my job and ability to go to school. It is really crucial for me to keep my job.

If Modest Needs is able to help me get back on track with my car payments, it honestly would be the greatest relief I have felt in such a long time. It would truly be a blessing to know that someone out there is willing to sacrifice in order to help someone else. I always will pay it forward! It will be wonderful to have the peace of mind that comes with having a car that allows me to continue making progress in my life. I appreciate your reading this, and am amazed that you would even consider helping. It has been a long and tiring journey since leaving what I loved doing most. However, the fight is never over, and I am not willing to give up!
