This person has left the following thank you note:

Hello all, When I first started inquiring about help with my rent, I was referred to Modestneeds.org by a friend. He suggested that I go this route instead of directly seeking out help from organiations such as United Way and Salvation Army. He said that there are many caring people out there who realize we face hard and challenging times in this economic climate and are very willing to help out the less fortunate. Since I never have asked for help in this manner, I was a little reluctant, however I decided to give it a try. I could never have imagined that what started out as a request for help from total strangers turned into something so fruitful. When I found out that my grant was funded, I sat back and really wanted to cry and rejoice. Finding out that complete strangers would use their hard earned resources to help me out during my challenging time gave me a feeling that there are truly people out there that really care, despite what we hear and see in the media. And for that, I say thank you to all of you who contributed to me so that I can get caught up on my rent. I really feel that you are heaven sent and knowing that there are people out there like you all that watches over the less fortunate just makes me want to live forever!!!!! Thanks so much!!!!!!

Caring For Mother Prior To Death Put Me Behind

My Story:

I need help catching up on my rent payment as I just moved into a new apartment after living at home and taking care of my mother for 8 months until her death from cancer. Being the youngest boy, she wanted me there with her during her final moments so I had to let my job go and move 900 miles back home to take care of her until she passed away. One year prior to that, I had to move back home to help my mother take care of my oldest brother who was strickened with throat cancer and died 3 months later. I also lost my father to prostate cancer so it definitely runs in our family.

I incurred lots of expenses taking care of them and had to cover medical and funeral expenses not covered by insurance. With no source of income, after exhausting my savings and pension taking care of them, I became so in debt that I fell behind on all my bills. Now that they are all laid to rest, I am now trying to play catch up and hopefully, since I have a new job, I can get back to where I was before the death of my family. If I could just get help with my rent, that would be a true blessing. Normally, I'm the type of guy that doesn't get worried or stressed out easily, however, being that it's a new expense that I have, I tend to worry a lot about how I am going get caught up on my rent. My landlord has been very cooperative and willing to work with me because she knows my situation and the ordeal I went through but I don't know how long she can continue. At some point, I have to get caught up or face eviction. I really can't afford to be stressed out at this time since I'm in training at my new job, and I don't want to lose it.

Funding this application will help me to get back into the flow of my life the way it was prior to my mother getting sick and passing. Even though I am now making 3/4 of what I was making at my last job, I am very fortunate that I was able to get a job and an apartment, and a little help with my rent would allow me to free up some money to get caught up on my other bills, like electricity, gas, etc.. After that, my income should be sufficient to just about cover my expenses. I always believe in helping others so it would be no surprise to me that others would reach out to help me. My mother always taught me that you reap what you sow and I have always sown good seeds.
