Single Mom Hit by Two Unexpected Expenses
My Story:
This single mom to a 7-year-old in Houston works as an administrative assistant for the state of Texas. She is also enrolled in classes as a full-time student.
Her budget is tight, and so when she got a flat tire and had to have *two* tired replaced, the unexpected expense really set her back. Then with the record heat in Texas of long stretches of 100+ temperature days, an unusually high energy bill arrived with it. So, under our Self-Sufficiency Grant, this single mother is asking for one-time assistance with the cost of her unaffordable energy bill.
She has already moved herself and her son into a cheaper apartment in effort to stay self-sufficient, but this expense is just out of reach. Investing in the life of this mother and her son will allow them to get caught up, stay ahead and avoid a cessation of services that will require even more money to have restored.
You can help by making a contribution to Modest Needs and using your points to vote that we fund this request. Once funded, we'll immediately send payment to the energy company for the full amount owed.
