86-year-old Grandmother Scared They'll Turn Off Electricity

My Story:

I am an 86-year-old widow. I live alone. I have four children and many grandchildren. My husband died in 1991. I live off of social security and a small rental income (which I have not received in the past few months). I am retired, but I am now also disabled. I have CHF (Congestive Heart Failure) and Asthma and Emphysema from my husband's smoking (I was never smoker).

Most of my children live far away, but I do have a 60-year-old son who lives nearby and helps me with things I cannot do by myself. Because of my health condition, I require air conditioning. I live in Texas, where it is very hot and humid. It is almost 100 degrees as my granddaughter helps me write this.

This month and last month I had unexpectedly high electric bills, medical bills, and computer repair bills that left me behind. I also had to pay my property taxes. Because my income is so low, I just can't catch up. I had to take out a 'Payday' loan just to be able to pay all of my bills. I had to pay that back because the interest was so high, and with all of my other unexpected or unusually high bills, I cannot afford to pay my electric bill this month! I cannot have my electricity cut off, as it controls my hot water and my cooking and most importantly, my cooling. Without air conditioning, I am unable to breathe due to my asthma, emphysema, and CHF. I don't know what to do!

There are times I don't buy medications because I cannot afford them. In July and August, I had to pay property tax (homeowner taxes), an enormous electric bill as my, son-in-law had a stroke and he and my daughter stayed at my home for six weeks, computer repairs, and medical bills and car expenses.

I am certain that if my electricity is cut off, I will end up in the hospital or dead with breathing and heart complications from my medical conditions. It is very scary. I have never asked for any type of assistance before until now, but I am desperate and don't know where to turn.

Helping pay my electric bill this month will ease my mind, allow me to sleep peacefully, and allow me to breathe. I will avoid being hospitalized or possibly even dying or respiratory illness, and I will be so greatly relieved to have this burden off my mind. It will allow me to catch up once and for all, so that I can go forward without such worry and the related health effects. I am 86 and I cannot afford such worry or the heat of Texas in the summer without air conditioning!
