This person has left the following thank you note:
Your help has brought comfort and relief during a challenging period of the year for my wife and myself. When I explained to my wife, at the dinner table last night, that our request had been fully funded she was overwhelmed with emotion, emotion that 'strangers' reached out to ease her physical pain. We so truly appreciate and realize that each of you have taken time out of your lives and money out of your pockets to help a stranger in time of need. You passed on buying that book you have been wanting or movie night you thought about treating yourself to. You took the time to sit down and read our plight, giving of your time so thoughtfully. For all that you gave up, for your kindness we want to express how moved and touched we are that you reached out to us and helped.
In Dire Pain: Need Dental Work to Prevent Blood Infection
They are a Pearblossom, California couple who have been up against some incredibly tough and totally unexpected emergencies, all during a time when he was unemployed. His wife became a missing person in April when he car ran out of gas in the snow and mountains, and she became stranded. She spent the night in the wilderness and was rescued the next day by helicopter. She suffered hypothermia, frostbite and severe bruising and was hospitalized for her injuries.
During this time, this California couple was living in an RV due to his being laid off for 18 months. They moved into the 5th wheel from their rental home in order to have enough money to pay for health insurance. This husband has now returned to work, and they are back in the rental home they once shared—they are well on their way to getting back on their feet.
However, she is currently suffering in severe pain. She needs dental work badly—in fact, she can barely chew—but after their hardships, they simply don't have the money to pay for the procedure. They are afraid that if the dental work doesn't happen, not only will she continue to suffer, but she could get a blood infection that could lead to horrible medical issues. Not only that, but the cost of the procedure, once done, will only grow.
And so this struggling couple, under our Self-Sufficiency Grant, is seeking one-time assistance with the cost of her very necessary dental procedure. You can invest in the life of this resilient couple by making a contribution to Modest Needs and using your points to vote that we fund this application. Once this request has 100% of the points needed, we'll immediately send payment to her physician for the full cost of the dental work. And after that, as a donor, you'll get a thank you note, written in her own words, expressing just how much your 'small change' was able to change their lives for the better.
Thank you for considering this application and for your ongoing support of Modest Needs.
As of 2011-08-30, this application has been fully funded!
This request for help was funded at the recommendation and through the support of Modest Needs' donors.
Application Status Update: On 2011-09-12, Modest Needs sent payment via Check in the amount of $675.00 to Gateway Dental on behalf of this deserving individual.
