As a single mother I have limited funds, and when the storm comes it seems as though it will never end for me. I am so thankful for you helping me pay my utility bill. I had no idea where the money would come from and now I know for sure that God has not forgotten about me and my son. I love you for giving from your heart, because you could have chosen to do anything else with your money besides help us. I thank you again and you will never know exactly how much it means for us to have received this Blessing!!!!

Single Mom with New Job Needs Help Keeping Lights On

My Story:

This single mom in Jonesboro, Georgia fell victim to unemployment, which made things difficult for her and her child. But this persistent woman pressed on, and she has found new work, which will get her family of two back on track.

In the meantime, an electricity bill that is three times its normal size landed in her lap, and since her first paycheck has yet to arrive, she simply can't afford to pay the balance. She has not only cut out cable television, but television altogether. She has even sold her car and now takes the bus, but still there aren't enough funds. This is why she is asking for assistance with the unusual bill under our New Employment Grant.

She tells Modest Needs, 'Although I have had many days that I feel defeated, the look in my son's eyes keep me going.' She fears that without a little help, she and her son will be without power in the dead of summer. 'I will most likely lose my job because, I have no idea how we will eat, wash, etc. without our utilities on. Our food that I have purchased will be spoiled, and so will my son's milk.'

This single mom is so very close to being able to make it on her own with the new job secured, it would be a tragedy to have her go without electricity while getting back on her feet. Reconnection fees can cause a slippery slide into a terrible situation that could be irreversible.

If investing in this single mom sounds like something you want to do, please consider making a contribution to Modest Needs and using your points to vote that we fund this application. We'll send a check in full for the owed amount to her electric company, and you'll get a thank you note from this applicant explaining how your generosity changed her life and the life of her son.

Thank you for considering this request, and thanks for your ongoing support of Modest Needs.
