Elderly Mom: Rehab For Amputation
My Story:
I recently entered the hospital to have a left leg bypass surgery. At first, this four and a half hour operation seemed to be a success. However, after a few days, there was no pulse from my knee down, so they tried administering thinners in hopes of saving my leg. Sadly, these attempts yielded no results, and I had no choice other than to have my left leg amputated above the knee.
I am currently in rehabilitation for recovery from the leg amputation. I have Medicare Advantage, however, after 20 days of full coverage, I am responsible for a substantial co-payment each day. This is not an expense I can cover without some assistance. I am told that my stay will be several weeks, and I have already been here for the 20 days that are fully covered by my insurance. So now, in the midst of trying to recover and adjust, I must also find a way to pay my portion of the rehab.
I live in a rental home with my younger sister, who is also retired, and I do not wish to be a financial burden on anyone. Thank You.
