Testimonial

This person has left the following thank you note:

I would like to sincerely thank all the donors that helped me in my request for help to get my mattress. It is good to know that their are still so many compassionate people in the world. I truly believe god's love shines through these people. I will finally be able to get a good night sleep. My energy will increase tremendously and I will be able to have more patience with my autistic teenage daughter. My deepest prayer is that I will soon pass my insurance license exam and build my insurance business quickly so that I may give to Modest need also. Kindness is the greatest miracle of life and the people who donated to me became my miracle.

Single Mom Needs Bed

My Story:

My financial struggle as a single mother dealing with a Autistic teenage daughter started back in 2008 when I was laid off from my job as a school clerk. After that things went down hill rapidly. My ex-husband decided to illegally cut off my child support and alimony in July 2009. After this unfortunate event, I could no longer afford the rent and was evicted.. It is already very difficult for autistic people to deal with change but having to move into a shelter was as low as I could go. I truly felt I had failed my autistic daughter. So much had already been taken away from her just by having autism. She had lost her father to divorce, her brother grew up and got a job working on a cruise ship and now we no longer had a home. I felt like giving up but I couldn't because I knew how much my autistic daughter needed me. I don't regret my daughter at all. I thank god for her because she is the one that helped give me the strength to stand tall.

In order to qualify for the shelter I could only bring my clothes, my books, my daughters radio, my t.v. and d.v.d player. I didn't have time to sell most of my stuff. I really regret leaving my bed. Fortunately after the shelter I was able to move into a temporary housing program. In the program I was provided with a fully furnished apartment. The down side to this was, I could only stay for a year. Once my year was up I knew it was going to be another struggle to uproot my autistic daughter again. However; I was glad because it was on the second floor and I have bad knees and a very bad back. I've had several back injuries which have left me with a very sensitive back. I finally was able to move into permanent housing a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, I was not able to keep the bed after moving out of transitional housing.

I'm sleeping on the floor or some times I sleep on a very uncomfortable couch. This makes it very hard for me to get very much sleep. It is already hard to sleep because my daughter has difficulty sleeping sometimes. So when I do get a chance to sleep it is very hard for me to rest with out having a comfortable mattress to sleep on. I am in desperate need for this mattress. I truly appreciate any help donors can give to help me get my bed. As a single mother my hope is to finish studying for my insurance license exam and be able to start my own insurance business. At this time I am living on my daughters SSI and court ordered child support. I can just barely afford the basic necessities. I will eternally appreciate the help and assistance from donors who will donate to my grant for my bed.
