Vehicle Broke: Need Rent Help

My Story:

I am a single mother, age 35, of two children, ages 6 and 12. I am currently a graduate student at Keller Graduate School of Management Online, pursuing my MBA in Marketing.

For income I receive unemployment, which is used to pay my utilities and gas to get my children to school, go to doctor appointments and job interviews. I receive a financial aid refund, which I pay my rent.

I was unable to work due to having knee surgery and a hysterectomy and I have to have surgery on my left knee as well. Therefore, I am not permitted to return to work yet. On December 23, 2010 my grandmother passed and her funeral was held in Rosedale, MS on January 1, 2011. I had a used 1994, Ford Explorer, of which I had been fixing the wheel bearings.

On the way home from her funeral, about a hour and a half away from St. Louis, my front end broke, along with loosing my break pads. Luckily we were able to pull over, and my two kids and I were stranded for 2 days. I was able to get the truck into a local mechanic to look over it and I was told that it was going to be at least $700 to fix and would probably be better junking the truck. So, I sold the truck to the mechanic for $200 and my boyfriend, drove down from Madison, WI to get us.

In the process, I told my current landlord about some issues with the tenants downstairs, that their weed smoke was coming into my unit. She then gave us both a 5 day eviction and then I got an eviction for being late for Januarys' rent. I had surgery on Jan. 18,2011, then I was unable to get my kids to school, due to the fact that I can only walk short distances from the knee surgery and I was unable to do anything after the second surgery.

When my financial aid refund came in, I had to purchase another car, so I purchased a car from an private owner. I had to go about two hours away from Madison, WI to pick up the car. I paid the rent for January, but my landlord was not happy about the complaint or the fact that I did not want to renew my lease, so we are in the process of getting evicted.

I have found a more reasonably priced apartment for my two kids and I. I have paid the security deposit and I will have to pay for moving costs. I am asking for help with our first months rent for our new apartment. We have to move from our current apartment by March 1, 2011 and if we don't have the first months rent by or that date we will be homeless and possibly loose our new apartment.

If a donor could step in and help, it would make a real and long-lasting difference in our situation. We would not be homeless and I will be able to schedule the next surgery for my left knee. I also have received a job offer from IKEA, of which I can work from home, but I wont be able to start for three weeks. My two children will also be able to stay at their current schools and keep the stability.
