As the snow is falling, and we have made it through a bitterly cold arctic blast, I am waking up to find in my email that some wonderful and generous people have acted quickly and thoughtfully to fund our need for heat assistance this winter. Family Of Disabled Child Needs Heat
My Story:
We are a family of 5, living in a trailer, with three children, one child with autism and other disabilities. Over the past year or so, our income just cannot keep up with the increasing utilities. Our electric went up by over 100% (BUDGET payment), after the caps were lifted in PA. For months, we have come close to having it shut off because we couldn't even afford to keep the budget agreement. Our phone has ballooned as well, even after removing a lot of the extra frills. Our heat cost also tripled. We are still paying on the bill, but not fast enough to get new deliveries and have now ran out.
We have applied for heat assistance in the past, but the state budgets are thinning out and more people are waiting for help, backing up the process. We just have nowhere to turn. Weatherization put in a new furnace and sealed up the windows, new doors, but this doesn't do much if your tanks are empty. I'm sure it will help conserve in the future if we can afford the fuel. My husband works two jobs, my son gets SSI and I have sold just about everything I can to keep us going this year.
