Double Amputee: Bathroom Repairs
Dear Modest Needs,
I need your help. I am a married, 62 year old double leg amputee and need my bathroom repaired and made handicap accessible. I have a small bathroom with a 30+ year old bathtub that I am unable to get into for a bath. The sink is a cabinet model that will not allow me to get as close as I need to wash my hands. When I have company, I cannot go to the bathroom because there is not enough space to close the door with my wheelchair.
My floor is rotting in places and I fear my wheelchair could fall through anytime. There are indentions in the floor from my wheelchair. I would appreciate a grant to install a shower so I can get in to bath independently, since my wife is now having health problems that have limited her mobility in helping me like she has in the past. A pedestal sink would allow me closer access to faucets to wash and shave and a taller toilet will make it easier to transfer from my wheelchair.
Lastly, I am fearful of the floor falling through with my wheelchair, so part of the grant would buy materials needed to repair it. This grant would give back my dignity and would help me be more independent. Thank you in advance for your help.
