Testimonial

This person has left the following thank you note:

Thank you just does not seem to be enough to say to you for the thoughtfulness you have shown to me during my time of crisis. Because of your compassion I can now pay my landlord the back rent I owe just a few days before he begins the eviction process. This means so much to me and has truly renewed my faith in people and in the kindness of strangers. I look forward to the day when I can be of assistance and help to someone in need. Thank you so very much for your willingness to do for others who just need a little help to help themselves. Sincerely, T.P.

New Job: Need Rent Help

My Story:

Thank you for taking the time to read my brief history and reason for my request for rental assistance. Two years ago I had a stroke and fell down unconscious for an undetermined amount of time as I lived alone. Once I was conscious and able to crawl to the phone for help, emergency assistance had to break down my door to reach me and transport me to the hospital. Because I was unconscious for some time I developed compartmental syndrome in my right leg and arm which required immediate surgery or amputation.

I have recovered as much as the doctors say that I will which is about 50% of my old self but still struggle with concentration, comprehension, short term and long term memory, walking, using my right arm, hand movements, and a permanent spinal cord injury. I was only 42 years old at the time of my stroke and unfortunately, the doctors were never able to find out why I even had a stroke at my young age since I had none of the obvious risk factors.

My family rallied around me and my little sister moved in to help take care of me and ultimately decided to remain with me as only a loving and supportive sister would decide, for my well-being. I am currently receiving short-term disability and food stamps through the State, while I wait for my Social Security Disability approval. However, my sisters' most recent job ended sooner than scheduled at the end of this past July 2010.

This caused us to fall behind in our rent for September 2010. But fortunately the new job she was expecting begins within the next two weeks and it will afford us the ability to get back in position to support our household together, and not incur another month of unpaid rent and late fees with the help we are requesting. I sincerely appreciate this help more than I can express since I try daily not to beat myself up for being disabled and unable to support myself without help from family. Thank you so very much for your assistance with this matter, and for the kindness and support you offer to those in need.
