This person has left the following thank you note:
I apologize for the delay in my thank you note - i found the emailing telling me i was funded in my spam folder :(- I would like to tell each person who helped me with my request that you have taken a load off my shoulders. I have been trying to figure out how to balance all the needs of my children and our household - and as if I had angels all around me ModestNeeds came through with funding. This is such a fabulous gift to us and allows me to keep current on the rest of the bills. I am surely going to become a donor through ModestNeeds as soon as I am on my feet. Again you all each and everyone who helped are wonderful people and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Husband Left - Need Utility Help
My Story:
I have found myself in a situation where I am completely without an income or resources to pay my bills. I have 2 children one who is 17 who wants to join the Navy and Cassidy who is 11. I just recently filed for divorce from my husband of 21 yrs in all we have been together for 23 yrs. At my husbands insistence I have not worked in 2+ yrs. Previous to that I ran a daycare out of our home. In 2006 I was diagnosed with cancer (thankfully I am cancer free now) and we lost our home due to my husbands gambling addiction. Until recently when I started a support group I didn't realize how abusive my household was.
He kept me home instead of working so he had total control and to cripple me financially. On July 11, 2010 I found a secret email account of my husbands - he had been having an affair for months. He posted an add on Craig's list and found another woman. After the shock wore off I accepted the situation best I could and offer for him to stay in the house as roommates until I could find a job or finish school. Somewhere along the line he thought we could work out the marriage and he could keep the affair going. I told him no that didn't work for me he packed his clothes and left.
In the early morning hours of Aug 4th he entered the home unexpectedly dragged me out of bed and became physically violent with me - he proceeded to lock me out of the house with no shoes, keys or phone - he later let me in - threw hot coffee on me, cut the phone lines and internet lines in the house and verbally tormented me throughout the day. I barely slept that night and when he woke and left the next morning I filed a report with the police and got a 6 month restraining order on him along with full custody of our children.
He was the sole provider in our home as I said I have not worked in 2+ yrs. I am looking for work and I am also enrolled in a Health Claims Specialist Program. The judge ordered him to pay the rent but nothing else. I have several bills to pay and no oil in our tank. Child support was ordered in the amount of $400 a week but that will not start until Aug 26th and that's if I get it. All I'm asking for is help with my electric. My children have therapy appointments to attend to help them through this awful mess. I was approved for Food Stamps this morning but will not be activated until a week at best.
I happened to try our Town Hall to see if they had emergency funds and the wonderful woman in the selectman's office gave me your website. My electric bills is behind but I have not received a shut off notice yet. I have called for discounted programs and I am awaiting the paper work in the mail. This is my last attempt to find a way to keep the kids and I safe for at least this months bills.
