I was amazed to wake up and see that our application was funded this morning! What a wonderful Christmas gift for my family! We're feeling a great weight lifted from our minds and hearts. The relief is uplifting and we're overwhelmed with the generosity of the donors who made this possible. We honestly can't thank everyone enough, it feels like we had angels watching over us. We can go into 2012 confident that our year will be so much easier now that we'll be caught up with our finances. And we'll be welcoming our daughter in March! Urgent Rental Help Needed
My Story:
My household consists of my boyfriend, myself and my son. We have fallen on hard times and urgently need help.
I currently work in a school. My boyfriend lost his job several months ago. As a result we fell behind on everything over the summer and are still playing catch-up. This is largely because once summer comes around, my hours at the school drop substantially, and we lost a great deal of income. Then, on top of the loss of income, my boyfriend's unemployment put us even father behind. I couldn't support us on my pay alone. Now we are behind. I have no choice but to ask for help here because I can't take out a loan, nor would it be a good idea to try since it would mean another monthly expense.
Despite our financial troubles, we've managed to pay everything off except the rent. My modest need is for rent. This is the only bill we're still struggling with.
Obviously being behind on the rent brings the fear of eviction. We have no place to go if that happens, no family to stay with. I receive food stamps benefits for myself and my son every month in the amount of $133, but it's not enough--we still have to spend additional money on food each month. I've been a single mother for all of my son's life. I receive no child support or help from his father. We are truly doing this on our own.
I've done all that I can to catch up, we've caught up on the cell phone bill, the car insurance, most of the rent, as well as moved to a smaller and cheaper apartment. We do not have cable, home phone or internet services at our home. We've even gone to the extreme of getting rid of our family pets just to try to save some money. I work as a babysitter to an autistic child each week for an extra $60 as well.
This much needed help will make a real difference within my life and my household if we are funded. Everything will be back on track finally after months and months of trying. I know that our relationship as a family will improve and grow stronger. The strain of financial problems takes quite a toll although sometimes we may not notice at first. My health may very well improve after this weight has been lifted, I'll feel relief. Please help us if you can. Thank you.
