When I received the notice that Modest Needs will be able to help my family and I during this difficult time, I felt like there was the light I was waiting for. Big or small, when someone does something nice for someone else no one really knows really how much it will effect them. I try to live my life and bring up my 3 young boys to the saying, what you give is what you get, so give good. This is an example I will be able to share with my children to reinforce this belief. My children and I have always shown compassion for those who are in need, whether it be through our volunteer service or simply sharing what we do have. Thank you for showing your kindness and love for others and I hope more will be inspired to 'pay it forward' and make a difference.
Single Mom: Help Abused Wife Bounce Back
My Story:
I am a single mother of 3 young boys. The twins are 6 and I have a 12 year old. I used to be a school teacher until I separated from their father 3 years ago. The divorce was just final this past August. It was an emotionally and physically abusive relationship that I did not want myself and especially my children to be around. I had to change my occupation in order to have a more flexible schedule. He does not support them financially and continues the emotional abuse. I am now working as a legal assistant and becoming a mediator for extra money. I am applying for assistance because the only way we are able to survive is through assistance from my parents and my ex husband's parents. Our AC just broke and I had to pay for the downpayment for the new system, and now I am making payments on the rest of the unit. I was just in the hospital for High Blood Pressure. They would not let me leave because they thought I was going to have a stroke. I need to pay the bills for that visit. I would like to be free from the bills from the ER stay. I am still making payments from a previous ER visit from my oldest son when he broke his arm a year ago. I just finished paying off my stay in the hospital from 3 years ago and I want to have a fresh start.
I am asking Modest Needs to pay for the radiology bill from the ER visit. My mother and my grandmother had/have brain aneurisms and they thought I might be having one, too.
I am scared I will not be able to feed my children. I am the only parent they have and I am supposed to be able to take care of them. When something like the AC breaking or an ER visit can make you worry about where you will get money for groceries, it makes you feel incompetent.
I know that there are good people out there and I teach my boys that what you give out you get back. Any help you could provide us would be forever appreciated.
