Over Run by Termites

My Story:

Gentlepeople,

I am asking for help with this bill because I am disabled with Multiple Sclerosis. I receive SSDI but my husband is in the application process for disability, as he can no longer work due to a mental condition similar to Agoraphobia. The paperwork was recently submitted and has not been approved as yet.

I am trying to make extra money doing sewing and want to sell my items on Etsy.com. My husband has been selling all our books and DVD's online to add a little money to the situation. We are both developing small businesses that we feel will eventually bring us back to a comfortable living. My husband particularly does not want to stay on disability. I'm afraid my MS leaves me no choice.

We are in the process of getting a loan modification on our house to bring our payments down. We were put on a 'trial' plan last January, however, the bank seems to have a problem keeping track of our paperwork and what was supposed to be a three month trial is an amount that I have been paying faithfully and on time since January. I am still trying to get the modification through and I have a nonprofit group helping me now.

Before I got sick my husband and I had a very substantial income and were living within our means and putting away money for retirement, now everything is gone and we have done anything we can to keep from declaring bankruptcy as we don't feel that is appropriate. Although we didn't foresee this sort of disaster when we incurred the debt, we still would like to fulfill our obligation. I have made arrangements with all our creditors to pay minimal to amounts, like $25 to $35 per month. Once we are on our feet again, we will pay them off and have done with credit cards.

Our current situation is dire because out Homeowners Association has opted to have this termite fumigation done and we all have to pay our share. This is a group of eight condos and everyone is late middle aged and doing well financially (as we once were). They have no sympathy whatsoever and if we don't get the payment to the Treasurer, they said they would put a lien on our home, charge us $20 per month for every month it isn't paid. And will charge us all legal fees to put the lien on our home. I actually didn't think they could do this kind of thing but they are saying they will have our home taken away.

Because I am confident we will be able to make more money in the coming year, I promise that I will pay back this money either as donations or in any other way you see fit. Our home is everything to us. It's our first and only home. We've been here for 17 years and put a great deal into modifying it not only artistically but to accommodate my MS.

I know we are asking for a great deal of money, more than you usually give but please, please help us if you possibly can. Thank you for considering our request.
