Near Death Experience: Mortgage

My Story:

I am disabled since March 2007 and was morbidly obese and weighed 315 lbs. After seeing commercials for the lap band, etc. on TV I decided to check into the weight loss surgeries since I had so many health issues, I had the surgery the surgeon recommended on 8/18/10.

On 8/20/10 I was rushed via ambulance to the hospital with unexplained pain and extreme sickness. It was determined after CT Scan that I had developed a tear in my recent surgical spot and that I was septic. All of my organs were shutting down and I fell into a coma. The next morning I had emergency surgery where they removed part of the stomach and I was placed in ICU for a total hospital stay of 10 days.

My husband couldn't leave me alone as I couldn't take care of myself and was so weak. I couldn't even bathe my own self, cook, clean, do laundry, etc. I often throughout the day would have accidents due to the inability to control my bowels due to the surgery.

Approximately two weeks after being discharged, I was again rushed to the hospital because I couldn't breathe. It was determined that I had a pleural effusion/pneumonia in my left lung. I was called by the surgeon a few days later and they advised me that a spot was found on my left lung and it was very suspicious. I had a PET Scan, saw a Pulmonologist, had a Pulmonary Functions Test, and was consequently sent to a Heart and Lung Surgeon who performed surgery on my left lung on 10/26/10 where a wedge of my lung was removed and the pathology results were that it was histo-plasmosis. I will have to be monitored for the rest of my life for this.

My husband returned to work this past Sunday when he knew that I was somewhat able to resume care for my self. It is my feeling that with my husband back to work now and getting a little help back on our feet from some agencies in two months more we will be back on our feet and will no longer require any help! Thank you so very much for helping us!
