Missed Work, Disability: Utility
My Story:
I am asking for help today because I was put on disability due to my diabetes. I had blood sugars up to 600 and as low as 23 (Normal sugars are around 90 to 120). I was not feeling well at all. I was unable to go to work and using all my sick time and vacation time to cover my missed hours. Eventually I had to go on disability because I was unable to come into work.
I recently transferred to California from Utah and have paid short term disability for many years just in case something like this happened. I have never been on short term disability until now. Unfortunately, when I moved, my disability through Hartford was dropped due to the state mandated short term disability coverage in California. Three months after I moved here I was unable to work and took disability and asked the state to cover my disability payments. I was told 'no' by the state of California because I haven't worked in California long enough to prove I deserve disability from the state. Hartford wont cover disability because the coverage was dropped when I moved here and they don't cover short term disability in California due to the state mandated short term coverage.
I am ready to get back to work, but in the meantime I have been unable to pay my utilities. My electric bill is past due—can someone please help? My family and I would be grateful. Thank you very much in advance.
