Testimonial

This person has left the following thank you note:

I am writing to thank you for funding my request for a toilet and plywood. I am so overcome with emotion that I don't even know what to say or where to begin. Truly, words cannot possibly begin to express my deep, overwhelming gratitude for your generosity and kindness. NOT ONLY HAVE YOU MADE MY HOME SAFE AND HEALTHY FOR ME TO LIVE IN FOR MANY YEARS TO COME, BUT BY REACHING OUT TO ME, YOU HAVE ALSO RENEWED MY FAITH IN HUMANITY! After working all of my life in the mental health field to advocate for others, I suddenly became disabled. I have tried to do home improvements gradually since I am now on a fixed income, but some of them (the floors and toilet damaged in a storm prior to when I became disabled) just could not wait any longer and therefore, your assistance is - quite frankly - life saving! Again, thank you so very much! ***And, please know that I believe in 'paying things forward.' Somehow, I believe that I will help others at EVERY chance that I get, because I always have! Even when I first became disabled and had NO income coming in, there was a collection can on the counter at a local store for an injured child. I remeber VIVIDLY that I only had two dollars left in my pocket. Without hesitation, I took out a dollar and put one in the can, and made my cough drop purchase with the other. Most people would have thought this was a crazy time for me to 'waste' my money. I disagree. That child could have used that one dollar a lot more than I could have, I'm sure. Again, I will never be able to thank you enough for the difference that you have made not just in my home but also in my life! Thank you! Sue

Disabled: Need Plywood and Toilet

My Story:

I worked all of my life in the mental health field advocating for others, until I unexpectedly became disabled myself a couple of years ago. (I never married or had children, as I was too busy caring for others!) Just months prior to having to leave the workforce, my community lost electricity for several days. Unfortunately, my pipes froze, as did my pump, etc.

I immediately replaced my pump, and some pipes, and over time replaced all of the remaining plumbing. However, I only have the toilet left to replace, as parts of this system also were damaged. In addition, due to the water damage, and the frozen septic pipes (which backed up into the home and ruined three of the floors), the floors now have to be replaced, and can no longer wait to be repaired.

Because the home is older, I don't qualify for other programs through the local community action program. However, the home is almost all updated [including a new furnace, new pump, new water heater, new water conditioning system, all new plumbing, new septic system and leach field (when I moved here), all Anderson doors and windows, an 'A-roof, etc.'

Therefore, completing the floors would make my home the way it needs to be - safe and healthy. Nothing else would need to be done! The repairs can't wait any longer as I can no longer use the bedroom and have been sleeping in the living room for two years, but now that floor has HUGE holes and so this is not going to be an option much longer. Plus - the bathroom floor is going to fall down any minute.

I can't pay for this repair all at once, as I have limited income, and my car insurance is due this month as well as my taxes. Thankfully, I have volunteers who are willing to provide expert labor (they also did the plumbing labor so that I could have the rest of my house plumbed for water!). So - if you can help with the materials - I won't have to worry about any more work to be done on my home! Thank you!
