I Work in Food Service & Need Help Avoiding Homelessness After Losing Hours to COVID!

My Story:

Before the pandemic, I relocated to California and away from my family. I felt that my future was brighter here at the time, and I still feel that way, but Covid-19 forced me to put a hold on a lot of my plans for the future. I'm doing my best on my own here, but it's been really tough to get by because I work in the food service industry, which has been hit especially hard by the pandemic.

I work as a server, and due to the pandemic and the financial hit we've taken, my manager only lets me work for one or two days a week. I barely have enough money for food and gas, let alone for my rent and utilities. Thankfully, my landlord has been pretty understanding and lenient and is helping me out by not having me pay the full amount of rent every month to stay in my apartment. However, I'm really far behind on my rent now, and I'm worried that eventually their patience will run out and that they'll look to evict me. I've been able to use my tax returns to catch up partially, but I really need help if I'm going to avoid being homeless.

My landlord has been kind to me thus far, but I want to stay in good standing with them because that's a rare thing to find, and I can't afford to go anywhere else either. This act of generosity would keep me in my home, and it would allow me to continue to remain in California without the threat of homelessness to keep me from pursuing what I want to do. In the long-term, my biggest goal is to return to school, and this help would be a huge step towards getting back to that dream. Thank you all so much for your kindness and generosity; I promise to do my best to pay this forward when I'm able.
