My Daughter's Medicine Will Spoil if Our Power is Shut-off! Please Help Us!

My Story:

I'm a mom of three kids, two of whom live with me currently. My oldest is 16 years old and my younger daughter is 13 years old. My youngest has been diagnosed with CHARGE syndrome and autism. I work hard to make sure both my children have everything that they need, and I do so by working at an agency that supports adults with disabilities. I do work full-time and am very thankful to have been able to collect a paycheck through most of this pandemic, but as a single mother with one income, it can be tough to get by sometimes.

We typically live paycheck to paycheck, and at times during the pandemic I've really struggled to stay on top of all of our bills. Last year, I was out of work from March until June due to the pandemic, and during that time I had to use all of our savings on paying for food and rent. During that time, I've fallen very far behind on our electric bill, and I haven't been able to get caught up at all. I've tried to arrange a payment plan with the utility company, but even then, the payments are too much for me to handle month to month, even while I'm working full-time. I received a shut-off notice the other day, and I'm terrified because my daughter is on growth hormone shots that need to be refrigerated. They came to our home to shut the power off, but I managed to get a 30 day extension due to my daughter's medical condition just before they were going to shut our power off. However, they'll be back to shut it off in 30 days no matter what if I'm not caught up before then.

For the sake of my daughter's health, I'm asking for assistance with our power bill. If they come and shut our power off next month, her medicine will spoil, and I can't even bring myself to imagine what might happen after that. Honestly, I feel embarrassed and vulnerable to have to ask for help, but I know that without it, my daughter's health could be in serious jeopardy. As a mother, I have to lookout for my daughter, and right now, that means humbling myself to ask for this very generous assistance with our electric bill. Having this bill paid off will give me the chance to start fresh month-to-month, but most importantly, it will make sure that my daughter has the medicine that she needs. For that reason, I want to thank everyone who lends us support from the bottom of my heart. Truly, we could never forget such a kind and compassionate act.
