I'm a Nurse in the COVID Unit, but We Need Help Keeping Our Home!
I'm a nursing assistant who works in the Covid-19 unit at the University of Chicago. I've been at my job for ten years, and I love it because I get to go into work every day and help people. I'm married to a wonderful man, and together, we have six children, two of whom live at home. We've been married for 29 years now and have raised a beautiful family together.
It's been really difficult for us to get by even though I'm still working. My husband has been out of work for almost a year now, and we're really reliant on both of our incomes to be able to pay all of the bills. His unemployment has run out, and on top of that, our landlord has increased our rent by an extra $200. I've tried to find a second job to pick up some of the slack, but I'm working 12-hour shifts as it is and working in the hospital with a mask and respirator has caused a personal medical condition to flare-up on occasion.
We're struggling with our rent and need help before we lose our home. I'm doing my best to keep pushing through this crisis, but I can't push myself any further. My family is all that I have, and I'm terrified that without help, we'll all find ourselves on the streets or in a shelter. I'm worried that if that happens, I'll lose my job and will lose a career that I love.
At the end of the day, all I want to do is support my family and continue to help my patients, and if I lose my home, I won't be able to do either. However, this help would allow me to buy some time for my husband to find work again, and it would keep us in our home for the foreseeable future. My family would be incredibly thankful to everyone who even just takes the time to consider our story. We know how meaningful this assistance would be, so we want to pay it forward when we're back on our feet again.
