User-submitted image - Click to see real sizeWe are blown away by the generosity of this community. The joy is overwhelming, and we could not help but burst into tears of sheer gratitude. We want the thank every single human being who found it in their hearts to help support us during this financially crippling time in our lives. We are so blessed to have found the Modest Needs Organization and all of the people who support their life-changing mission. We cannot begin to say thank you enough. At this point, all we have to give is our word. We give our word that we will pay this forward once we get to a financially safe position to do so. We will help a family in need once we are able. We deeply appreciate the support you've given us and letting us know we are not alone in our struggles. Thank you for helping our little family have the privilege of driving safely on the road.

I'm a Disabled Vet. If We Can't Pay Our Car Insurance, My Wife Will Lose Her Job. Please Help!

My Story:

I am a veteran of the Marine Corps and a husband to my wonderful wife, Kate. We are both in our mid 20's and trying to get our feet under us. I am currently a student pursuing a degree in Information Technology, and my wife is teaching and tutoring. We adopted a very unique and loving 12-year old Yellow Lab-Husky mix from the shelter named Jake last two years ago and we both love caring for him and treating him like our 'son.'

Kate and I consistently struggle to afford our basic necessities because we have been engaged in a slow and very stressful process of filing and pursuing my disability claim with the Department of Veteran's Affairs. As a result of this extremely slow and taxing process, we have found ourselves with an abundance of debt piling up and a depleted savings account. I was misdiagnosed in my initial assessment and as a result, received an almost insignificant disability rating with very little financial compensation. I recently had a follow-up appointment with a different psychiatric specialist (almost a full year after my initial evaluation,) who diagnosed me with major depressive disorder and a specified trauma or other stress related disorder as a result of my military service and experiences.

Now that we have my correct diagnosis, we should begin to receive the amount of compensation to which I'm entitled, In the meantime, though, we've gotten behind on some bills, and the most important issue we have right now is our auto insurance. Our car insurance company was threatening to drop us altogether, but we recently managed to make a partial payment and buy ourselves some more time. We won't be able to do that again, and if we lose our car insurance, than my wife won't be able to work. That'll be the beginning of the end for my family.

Without my wife's employment, we won't have any money even to pay for our most basic bills, so we're here to ask for help with our car insurance. Getting this help would give us significant relief from the burdens and pressure that we have been experiencing, as we both use the car to commute rather far each day for work/school. My wife is studying to take the CDR exam to become a registered dietician nutritionist, and I am hopeful that when we begin receiving disability compensation from the VA, that income, alongside her income as a dietetic specialist upon passing the exam, will make it possible for us to return to self-sufficiency. It seems strange to say, but our car insurance seems to be the only thing that's keeping us from completely taking care of ourselves, so if you could please help us with that one bill, we'd be more grateful than I can tell you. Thank you.
