This person has left the following thank you note:

User-submitted image - Click to see real sizeI cannot begin to express my gratitude towards Modest Needs and all of their donors. I am very appreciative of the fact that Modest Needs allows people to explain their circumstances rather then the typical checklist of questions many funding sources use to determine eligibility. As someone who works with children and families, I have provided or linked families to resources for help many of times. It is a great feeling to know that I have been able to receive help when needed. By helping me keep my utilities connected, you all have indirectly helped so many others as I will be able to continue my work as a teacher at an online school and continue to spread the spirit of giving that has helped me. Once again, thank you so much for helping my family.

Recently Started New Job, Please Help Me Catch Up

My Story:

I am a single mother of two children. An 8 year old daughter who is very active in jazz, hip hop and tap dancing and a son who recently turned 5 years old on December 5th. After months of substitute teaching, I gained full time employment at a virtual public charter school in November.

Working as a substitute teacher means no guaranteed income. There were some weeks where I worked M-F and others where I did not work at all. Due to this unpredictability in my income, I got behind on many bills. I did not gain full time employment until mid November. I have only received three paychecks from my current job, with the first having two cycles of health insurance taken out. I have been able to catch up on rent and electricity, but am still having trouble with my gas bill. I am in need of Modest Needs' help to pay this bill. With the Michigan winter months being cold and having young children (one of whom has asthma) it is crucial that I do not have a disconnection.

This funding will bring my household up to date on all utilities and alleviate the stress I have of paying the bills that are incoming. Now that I have full time employment, my financial situation will be much more stable. It has just been hard maintaining when I was so far behind. I will be able to return to making biweekly deposits to my savings account so I have a cushion for any other emergency expenses that may arise. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
