User-submitted image - Click to see real sizeDear Modest Needs Foundation Donors, Thank you so much for your kindness and financial help during this time of my life. As of last Monday (1-27-20), I received the news that I passed the boards, and became a registered nurse. The news of your help with my rent entered my mailbox as I was walking out of my first interview as a RN. Through hard work, dedication, the grace of God, and altruistic people like you, I am heading into a new chapter of my life giving to people in need as well. Donors and Modest Needs Foundation, your help is appreciated more than my words can say. I am a bit in shock and awe regarding the accumulation of the past 2 years, leading up to so much good news of the past week. Again, thank you for your kindness and generosity. Thank you for helping me (and all of the others), as one of the recipients of your funding. You all are a true blessing in my life. Warmest Regards, J. Brown

I'm a Nursing School Graduate. I Took Time Off From Work to Study for Finals & Now I Can't Pay Rent!

My Story:

I am a recent nursing school graduate ready to take the board next month. It has been a life-long dream to become a nurse. Right no, to be able to afford school, I work as a mental health technician at a geriatric behavioral hospital and then part-time as a waitress at an Italian restaurant. But due to the demands of school, I haven't been able to work as much at my part-time job as I could in the past. Now, I'm in SERIOUS trouble and really need help.

I have always been self-sufficient and hard-working. When I was accepted into nursing school, I almost didn't go, as I did not have the financial resources available. I decided to seek scholarships and funding, which I received. These scholarships and grants don't cover all expenses, though, so I continued to work as a waitress as much as I could, without school being affected because nursing school is a HUGE commitment, and I was dedicated to fulfilling my dream of being nurse. Anyway, During the final semester in order to succeed in school, I was only able to work about half of the shifts I'd normally get at my job as a waitress. The sacrifice paid off. I graduated just five days ago with honors! But because of the time I missed from my waitress job, I wasn't able to make rent this month, and if I don't pay by the end of the month, my landlord has said he's going to evict me.

One month of rental assistance will do much more than bring my rent current and keep me from becoming homeless. Your support as I run the last 200 yards of this marathon will be life-long, for me and for all of the people I'm able to help as my patients. Through your compassion, kindness and help, I will be able to finish study for and complete my boards with honors. That's something I won't be able to do while I'm worried about paying my rent. The stress is crushing and makes it hard to concentrate. But with your help, I'll be able to stay in my home, complete my education, and fulfill my dream of providing high-quality, compassionate care to patients and families alike. Thank you for your consideration and for all you do for so many people.
