I Had To Use Rent Money To Buy A Car To Get To Work

My Story:

I am a married mother of two 9-year-old little girls. My daughters are about one month apart in age and although they're stepsisters, my husband and I have been together since they were 3 years old, so they essentially grew up as twins. My daughter Annalisa and my husband are 2 peas in a pod and my stepdaughter Willow and I are inseperable. We also have a 3-month-old puppy named Luna. I am the Deputy Director of the Region 1 Planning Council, where my primary responsibility is managing a team of grant writers. We write grants for local government and nonprofits. My husband is an artist: he primarily works as a tattoo artist, but also draws and paints and has won awards in local art shows. He stays at home part time and cares for our children while I'm at work, as childcare would be extremely expensive for both of our children. He is a very devoted and loving father. My husband and I like to ride his motorcycle in our spare time.

We are fortunate in that I have a good paying job that covers most of our expenses. We made the decision this year for him to only work part time and stay home to care for our children. We've been able to pay our bills this way but we're living paycheck to paycheck. This was fine until recently, when our vehicle broke down. We tried to fix the car, but after we paid a friend to fix it, he never came back, and the car has been sitting broken in the driveway. We finally found a friend that was willing to sell us her van, but since we didn't have the extra money, we had to use the rent money. We have no way to make the rent payment in time right now. Unfortunately, we didn't have a choice; if I couldn't have got to work, I would have lost my job, and I had no other way to get my children home from school.

If we are given help this one time, it will put everything back on track for us: it will truly change our entire situation. My husband has finally been able to work again after an injury, so he'll be able to help us start our emergency savings. This expense has been looming over our family and adding to the stress about my husband's injury. Were it not for social services and the generosity of others, I would not be where I am today, so I've always tried to give back. Today, we find ourselves in need of help again, and I am hopeful that we will get the assistance we need to get back on track. We have always taught our daughters that it's important to help others and that you never know when you will be the one in need of help. Regardless of whether or not you can help us, your work is changing lives and helping to create the kind of world I want my children to live in.
