Veteran and Family Need Help Paying Utilities Due to Unexpected Income Loss
My Story:
I am the lucky mom of two amazing 7-year-old twins. My husband served in the USAF for 14 years, deploying 6 times during his career in the military. Our son has an incredible memory, and loves trains. He enjoys to give briefings on everything from tornado safety to railroad crossing protocols. Our daughter is a math whiz and has been able to add and subtract in her head since she was 2. She just started an elementary school that focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math, and is loving it! I have a degree in Psychology that comes in handy while I stay at home with my husband to keep him safe as he struggles with service-connected disabilities.
Due to cutbacks with the VA's caregiver program, I unexpectedly lost the caregiver stipend I had been receiving. The challenges my husband faces, and the work I do to help him have not changed, however. While the current income we have is generally enough to cover our basic bills, it does not give us any flexibility with our budget to allow for unusual expenses or unusually high monthly bills.
We need Modest Needs to help us with an abnormally high utility bill. Because our rental contract views utilities as part of the rental payment, we can be evicted over an unpaid utility bill. This bill is so much higher than what we had been paying each month, and we were completely blindsided by these charges.
Your assistance would put us back on track with our budget and our expenses. I am going to be doing home-based work to supplement our income and build an emergency fund for the future. Your help will give our family a renewed sense of stability, both financially and emotionally, and put us back on solid footing again. We would truly appreciate your assistance during this difficult time of transition, and once we are in a better position, we will pay it forward!
