Selfless Caretaker Seeks Help with Roof Repair
My Story:
She is a 52-year-old single woman with no children who is the sole caretaker of her dear neighbor, who is blind and totally dependent on her. She has been a victim of unemployment, but has recently gotten a part-time job that allows her to take care of most of her expenses.
Recently, the corner of the roof was damaged by wind and before she could get it fixed the whole edge came off. The only thing keeping rain from pouring into her home is a single piece of plastic sheeting. She has found someone to do the labor on the roof for free, but she simply cannot afford the materials.
She tells Modest Needs, 'My neighbor has nobody to look after her and I refuse to abandon her. Without me she would be forced into a retirement home and I know the sadness of leaving her home would kill her. Once she gets an aid approved, I will be going back to work full time.'
This selfless woman is seeking one-time assistance with the repair of her roof under our New Employment Grant, which would prevent her home from being condemned, which could leave her, her neighbor and her dog without a place to live.
