This person has left the following thank you note:

I want to thank you all that helped us. You have relieved so much stress from me and my family!! What you donated to us helps me not to worry and wonder what I'm going to do when our lights go out and there is no source of energy to fulfill my son's needs. Now I can relax and take that burden off my shoulder. I don't think words can describe how I feel and how much I thank each and everyone of your good spirited souls! You all have hearts of angels and I thank God for you!! Helping others in need means helping yourself because it makes you a better person in this world. Thank you from our hearts to yours.

Child On Dialysis: Generator

My Story:

I live in the more rural part of town, and power outage is very common here. My son, who is only 18-months-old and suffers from kidney disease, is on PD Dialysis and a feeding machine. Both of these machines require electricity to run. He also needs to be kept cool, so he has a small window AC unit in his room.

I have discovered that it is very hard to administer these therapies, and keep him cool, without power. When the power has gone out in the area, I have had to stay up all night doing 12 hours of dialysis and feedings via Mickey Button, by hand. I am a single mom with four other kids to care for, so it is very difficult for me to spend the entire night doing this. We have well water here, so during those times when our electricity suddenly goes out, there is also no water in our home.

Due to my son's condition, I am unable to work, as I am his full-time caregiver. We only have enough income to cover our basic bills and necessities. There is no extra money for hotel stays. I have found a generator that should keep things running within our home so that my son's therapies and room temperature will remain stable. I just do not have enough money to make this purchase myself.

I am hoping someone can help us get this generator so that my son's treatments and care are not affected during power outages. It would be a huge stress relief to know that he will have his dialysis and feedings and remain cool and comfortable. Thank you all.
