Single Mom Needs to Pay Nursing License to Keep Job!
My Story:
I am a single mom who lost everything during a divorce after domestic violence. We fled and left everything behind. I work a a nurse, but was recently out of work due to treatment for thyroid cancer. I am still employed by two nursing agencies and am scheduled to work, but need to pay for my license renewal to keep working! Not only was I out of work for some time, but my usual bills (including rent and utilities and groceries and gasoline and insurance) continued to come. I fell behind, and then, last month, had to pay $300 in car repairs. I simply don't have the money to pay to renew my nursing license.
I need Modest Needs help so I can keep my job! I will not be able to work if I am not able to renew my nursing license. I might lose my jobs. Our family would go without medication, groceries, and other basic needs. We might be evicted, as we are already behind on our rent, and the only way to catch up is to renew my nursing license so I can work! I take medication because my thyroid was removed due to the cancer, and I do not have health insurance at this time - so I might not be able to afford my medicine. The worst outcome would be not being able to work and to lose our self-suffiency and independence.
I'm angry that there is no safety net for working people who get catastrophic illness! I'm worried 24 hours a day, seven days a week. I cry myself to sleep out of stress and fear and shame and worry. I have a skill and am employed, but can't work because I can't come up with money to renew my license! I feel like I'm going crazy!
Renewing my nursing license will mean that I can KEEP WORKING and catch up financially and keep a roof over my head and buy the basic things we need like food and medicine. It will keep us from falling through the cracks and needing more help in the long run. It will also avoid the fees that pile up the later you pay to renew your license. It will give us the helping hand and step up we need to remain safe, housed, fed, clothed, and self-suffient! Thank you for considering this request.
