I am writing this message to thank the people that have contributed to the purchase of an electronic door locking system for my front door. I try to live as independently as possible while dealing with the problems that exist with quadriplegia and a small budget. The electronic door locking system provides greater safety and independence by allowing me to open and close/lock the main door from my bed or wheelchair. Thank you all for your wonderful assistance. My Story:
To the Donors of Modest Needs,
The purpose of this grant request is to apply for funding for a replacement electronic lock keypad system to the entrance door of my apartment. The original lock system was installed by the Center for Independent Living many years ago and the keypad simply wore out. The entrance keypad contributed to my safety and physical Independence and I cannot afford to replace and install the system due to limited financial resources.
I am not able to walk or use my hands due to a spinal cord injury 39 years ago. Attendants enter the apartment daily while I am in bed or unable to get to the door (because of a wheelchair breakdown, for example). It is not wise to pass out keys to every attendant until they have demonstrated an honest character. The keypad codes can easily be reprogrammed to allow entry to specific attendants.
It is very difficult for me to open the door using metal keys and the key pad is very useful to open the front door easily. Please consider funding my request as this grant will help me live more secure and increase my independence significantly. Thank you.
