My son and I relocated recently to begin a new life. I'm a 36 year old single mother and have always relied on myself to provide for my 14 year old son. However, once we settled down it took me two months to find work and at half the pay I was making.

Apparently I don't qualify for any state aid as $10 per hour is too much money to help someone with only one child and now I'm struggling to put food on the table and am unable to pay my monthly bills on time.

Which brings me to my request: I thought I had $400 saved which was supposed to have gone not for Christmas gifts but for a mattress for my son, as he has been sleeping on an air mattress or the couch since September. He's a great kid and understood that there were expenses more important, but here we are months later and I still don't have an extra penny after I get paid to buy him a necessity, much less even a dollar for an iced tea after school.

It's very depressing. I spent everything I had to move so I'm in a bad situation. I work very hard; always have but I can't seem to catch a break. I work my behind off everyday but I can't get ahead, I have nothing but a roof over my head, not a penny more.
