Application Details

Mother was Laid Off: Needs Help | Cost to fully fund this application: 275.00 Modest Needs Points

I am a single mother with a 15 year-old son who has autistic disorder. We reside in San Diego, California. My son is in tenth grade. He attends special day classes, due to his disability and although he struggles, he does well. I work very hard at my profession in the legal field.

My last day of work was September 25, 2009. I was laid-off from my position of three years due to downsizing and budget cuts with the corporation. I receive Section 8 due to the high cost of rent in San Diego. My rent will go down based on the amount I will receive in Unemployment Insurance. I am waiting to hear from the San Diego Housing Commission and the Employment Development Department on both of these matters and understand that it takes time to complete the necessary paperwork.

In the meantime, I have been behind in my electric/gas bill. I cannot afford it at the present time because I am using the little money I have to pay for food, transportation and school items for my son. As I know this program is a temporary solution, I would deeply appreciate any help that your organization will offer to my son and I.

Testimonial

This person has left the following thank you note:

I would like to thank each and every one of my donors for your generous contributions. In these uncertain times, I am still amazed that people like you are there to help not only my family but thousands of those in need. When I first lost my job, I was depressed, but mainly I was uncertain and scared about the future and being able to support my son. I am sure we all know someone who has been through a temporary setback in their lives and I am grateful for your organization because it gives many of us that hope again in mankind. I know that when I am back on my feet, I will be there to pick up someone who is less fortunate, as Modest Needs has done for my son and I. Once again, thank you so very much for the generous donation, but most all, thak you for giving me hope again. Your organization
