Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. My name is Yvonne and I was diagnosed last year with metastatic thyroid cancer. This combined with my lupus and several complications, has not allowed me to return to work. Because of losing part of our income, we could no longer afford our cars and had to return them to the bank. Some very kind friends stepped in and gave us a very reliable older car.

This has allowed me to get back and forth to see my specialists which are 3 hours from where we live. (which includes a beautiful ferry ride across puget sound). With unemployment benefits and medicaid I have been able to survive. After having a small service done on the car we were told that it needed several things fixed and that if we did them soon, the car would be fine but that we shouldn't drive it too much.

The problem is that I am going to start new treatments in a few weeks and I have to travel the 3 hours for them. We make do on what we have but this extra expense combined with the other travel expenses for the week of treatments is just too much at this time. Additionally I was just informed a few days ago that my medicaid is suspended until I reach a 'spend down' (deductable)of 3500.00. I am sure I will have incured that in the first day of treatment. I know that my story sounds like it could be depressing and really bring a person down.

At times, I have to admit that it has. But for the most part, I am really grateful to wake up every day and to see the promise of what the future holds. I work daily at maintaining a positive attitude and doing what I can to share that with others. Thank you for reading this.

User-submitted image - Click to see real sizeWow. What does a person say in a moment like this? Thank you a million times over. I just received the news that my cancer seems to be in remission. However the side affects from it will leave me under treatments for the rest of my life and having a good, reliable car that can take to and from the doctors is inmeasurable. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. Yvonne
